With the continued growth of our team, we are looking for a Data Protection Advisor to handle complex data protection requests and advise on a wide range of data protection matters along with ensuring data protection compliance within B&Q.

What's the job?

As a Data Protection Advisor within B&Q you will be responsible for supporting the Senior Data Protection Manager on ensuring data protection compliance across our business. It is a broad role covering a wide range of data protection responsibilities in an exciting, fast paced retail environment.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Provide expert analysis and advice on a range of data protection matters including data protection impact assessments, individual rights, and compliance risks.
  • Providing tailored responses on data requests and data complaints.
  • Responsible for advising the Business and independently making decisions on legal risk on a wide range of data breaches including undertaking reporting requirements to the relevant Data Regulator. Collaborating with relevant stakeholders and recommending actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Responsible for responding to a wide variety of data requests in compliance with GDPR.
  • Support the Senior Data Protection Manager in producing compliance reports for senior leaders and participate in our data protection governance committees.
  • Develop and deliver data protection awareness training and materials.
  • Review and develop policies, standards, and guidance to help the business comply with relevant legal and regulatory obligations and any new technological developments.
  • Liaising with other members of the Legal and Tax Team, as required to ensure an aligned legal approach.

What we need:

We are looking for an experienced Data Protection Advisor. To deliver this role you will be required to have the following experience: 

  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Experience in assessing data privacy risks across a wide variety of areas and technologies.
  • Dealing with contentious consumer matters including communicating with customers (both written and verbal).
  • Organisation, accuracy, and eye for detail.
  • Commercial awareness and pragmatism.
  • Experience in retail desirable (compatible data subjects, data sets, risks).
  • Experience of Microsoft tools and apps including email, word, excel and PowerPoint.
